Shosholoza

A popular movement and/or call-and-response song from Zimbabwe. After explaining the meaning, we do movement variations: up, down, backwards, modes of transportation... Enjoy!

Translation
Go forward (shoo-shoo)
On those mountains
The steam train from Zimbabwe.

You are running away
On those mountains
The steam train from Zimbabwe.
Activity suggestions:
Use this as call-and-response! Sing each line and have the children echo, noting that the 3rd and 6th lines are longer than the others.
Add movement: If you're sitting, move your arms like a train. If standing, move around in a designated path!
When teaching children songs in other languages, it always helps to use a recording.
