All Around the Maypole

I love to mix in the names of different children and give each a chance to show us their favorite dance moves. This is an old folk song with a rich history of use at springtime festivals. Have you ever danced around a maypole?

  Voice only

All around the maypole,
Maypole, maypole,
All around the maypole,
And now Miss Sally won't you bow?

And now Miss Sally won't you jump for joy,
Jump for joy, jump for joy,
And now Miss Sally won't you jump for joy,
And now Miss Sally won't you bow?

NOTES
When I sing it with the children, I find it sounds less old-fashioned and more inclusive to say "everybody" instead of "Miss Sally", as in "and now everybody won't you bow?"

You can also make this a circle game, where each child gets a turn to jump and dance in the middle. Just change "Miss Sally" to "Miss Emma", "Mr. Krish", or whoever's turn it is.
